Dear Parents and Guardians,

We concluded a busy week before the Winter Recess by celebrating literacy and participating in the 36th Annual Rockland Read-In!  Students read throughout the day enjoying self-selected reading material and getting cozy around the classroom.  Highview’s fourth graders visited our friends in Kindergarten at G.W. Miller to read.  It was exciting to see them as “Reading Buddies” to our younger friends.

We had a special visit by Supervisor George Hoehmann this week.  He joined two of our fourth grade classes to promote literacy and affirm the connection between reading and achievement.  He shared the book “Leave it to Abigail” and had a wonderful discussion with our students.  We thank Supervisor Hoehmann for taking the time to be with us and delivering such a powerful message.

As we begin the Winter Recess, please encourage your children to continue to read over the break.  Our teachers have been working hard to further develop your child’s reading and writing skills.  The power of practice and reading for enjoyment cannot be underestimated.

We continue our word of the month for February, which is patience.  Patience is a person’s ability to wait something out or endure, without getting upset or excited.  Our quote is “Have patience, everything is difficult before it is easy.”  Please encourage your child to reflect on how they can find ways to show patience in their lives and how this helps them to be the best version of themselves.

Please be on the lookout for your Parent / Teacher conference appointment and confirm your date and time.  We look forward to seeing you and we value the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress.

Please join us for the next PTA meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30pm in the Miller library.  We look forward to seeing you.

Enjoy the winter break and have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Sincerely,

Nancy Bonner
